live-work-see

Our seasonal live/work program is open to artists, creators and researchers interested in well... living and working in Istanbul for periods of a few weeks to a few months. This residency is non-competitive - as your presence at Caravansarai is negotiated by a completed application form, followed by a simple rental agreement and deposit.

Residents are responsible for their own financial support.

The live-work-see Residency exists to provide individuals:

  » comfortable and convenient living quarters equipped with private shared bathroom and full kitchen,
    in a building dedicated to creative energy

  » shared work space and/or studios in which residents can pursue their individual work

  » local guidance and access to a wide network of resources and people in Istanbul by virtue of living
    within an artistic meeting point

NOKTA

Nokta is Turkish for ‘point’, ‘dot’, ‘’period’ or ‘spot’.

As Istanbul is a geographic and cultural crossroads for three continents, we like to think of Caravansarai as a nexus where international foundations, organizations and corporations can meet and work together on projects of mutual interest.

Entities first define their own projects in Turkey, artistic or otherwise, and we provide:

  » Our facilities: Participants in these projects have use of the large production space, meeting room,
    and living quarters, depending upon need and availability. For larger parties, we can arrange for
    nearby accommodation.

  » Our expertise: While individual groups may approach us with a concept for collaboration, we act as
    consultants for the project in Istanbul. We contract as local guides, connectors, producers, hosts
    and mediators.

  » Guidance in designing the theme, duration, activities, and participants for each event.

As projects vary greatly, please send us a description of your proposal which details the scope of your project: Funding sources, project deadline, concept, participants, and any other relevant information.

Note: We are not a NGO or association. If you require partnership with an NGO for your grant, we can recommend a partner organization.

Caravan

Is the heart of Caravansarai, our chance to fantasize about our ideal residency. We are not only your hosts, but also participating artists.

Caravan is conceptualized, financed and hosted by Caravansarai and friends. We enjoy hosting people in Istanbul for living, eating, drinking, exploring, making artwork, coming up with bad ideas and just as many good ones.

We bring together people from many disciplines around a curated theme. During this time, locals and resident guests will get to know one another, together attending presentations, doing research and developing new projects.

Before we had a building, our apartment was filled with visitors developing ideas for creative projects in Istanbul. Now that we have a building, we are able to stop worrying about the neighbors, and indulge in a month-long collaborative party. Workshops, performances, late night fireside debates, karaoke on the terrace, and of course producing artwork can happen during Caravan.

This residency is funded by Caravansarai’s other business activities as well as by local sponsors. Participation in Caravan Residencies is generally by invitation.
